Signs of mold

What not to do

Don't scrub or tear out large moldy areas yourself, and don't blow fans across them. Disturbing mold can spread spores to other rooms. The EPA says homeowners can usually clean small areas, under about 10 square feet, on hard surfaces. Larger areas, or mold inside walls and AC systems, are a job for professionals.

Mold work in Florida is licensed

Florida licenses both mold assessors, who inspect and test, and mold remediators, who remove it. You can check any license at myfloridalicense.com. Ask whether the person testing is independent from the company doing the removal.

Mold comes back if the moisture does. The leak, the AC drain or the humidity problem has to be fixed too.

How this works

You call and tell us your ZIP code and what happened. We connect your call to an independent, licensed restoration company that works in your area. They come out, look at the damage, and give you a quote.

We don't do the work and we don't charge you. The company you're connected with may pay us for the referral. Any price or agreement is between you and them.

Questions people ask

Is black mold dangerous?

Any mold growing indoors should be dealt with, whatever the color. Color alone doesn't tell you the type. If you have health concerns, talk to your doctor.

Does insurance cover mold?

Many Florida policies limit mold coverage or only cover it when it comes from a covered water event. Check your policy for a mold limit.

Will bleach kill it?

Bleach can clean surface mold on hard surfaces, but it doesn't fix mold growing inside drywall or wood. Never mix bleach with ammonia or other cleaners.
