Slab leak signs

How to check your water meter

Turn off every faucet, appliance and the irrigation system. Look at your water meter and write down the reading, or watch the small leak indicator on its face. If it moves over 15 to 30 minutes with nothing running, water is going somewhere.

Two jobs, usually two companies

A leak detection plumber finds the leak and repairs or reroutes the pipe. A restoration company dries out what the water reached and removes materials that can't be saved. Many restoration companies work alongside leak detection plumbers and can recommend one.

Flooring
Tile, wood and laminate over a slab leak can loosen, cup or warp. Carpet pad soaks it up.
Walls
Water wicks up drywall and into baseboards from below.
Cabinets
Kitchen and bathroom cabinet bottoms swell when water spreads under them.
Mold
Moisture trapped under flooring and behind walls is where mold starts out of sight.

How this works

You call and tell us your ZIP code and what happened. We connect your call to an independent, licensed restoration company that works in your area. They come out, look at the damage, and give you a quote.

We don't do the work and we don't charge you. The company you're connected with may pay us for the referral. Any price or agreement is between you and them.

Questions people ask

Does insurance cover a slab leak?

Many policies cover the cost of reaching the leak and the water damage it caused, but not always the pipe repair itself. Policies vary, so check yours.

Should I turn off the water?

Yes, at the main shutoff. If it seems to be the hot water line, you can also close the cold-water valve on top of the water heater.

Is a slab leak an emergency?

If water is visible or the bill keeps climbing, act quickly. Water under a slab keeps spreading until the line is shut off or repaired.
